Personal Attraction: How to Lead in Business

As a rite of passage, every network marketer has struggled with attracting what is sometimes labeled as “garbage” leads. These are leads that are not interested in what you have to offer, are opportunity seekers, or don’t have what it takes to build their own successful businesses.

We all know the drill…

- Call 100′s of leads per day

- Conduct home parties

- Pass out business cards, flyers, postcards all around town

- Buy traffic

- Buy leads

It’s not to say that these methods don’t work. They can and will eventually result in leads, customers, and even new distributors. The numbers will have to work for you at some point, right?

Well, yes. But… these methods cannot be sustained long-term.

One of the main reasons people start up a home-based business is so that they can have the freedom of time. How much time do you think you will have to enjoy the things and the people in your life, when you’re spending the majority of your time talking to people who are likely not interested in your offer?

Targeted, quality leads are what we are after and are the life line of any home-based business. Being able to generate them should be done on autopilot so that you can spend your time on building your business and not on trying to alter the minds of others.

This will never work. You cannot change people.

So what do you do then? How do you create a system that works on autopilot? How do you start having others seeking you out, wanting to work with you even if you have little to no results?

You must attract them. You must become attractive.

No, I am not telling you that you must go out right now and pay for a complete makeover of your appearance. The attraction I am speaking of is personal attraction.

Personal attraction occurs when someone is drawn to another, based upon certain qualities that are in congruence with their own values and beliefs.

With personal attraction, you can finally be pursued rather than you doing the pursuing.

In the world of network marketing, personal attraction is achieved through one very simple concept: leadership.

The road to leadership lies within human psychology.

Contrary to popular belief, attraction is not a choice. Attraction is rather a biological and instinctual trigger that has kept people alive over the last millions of years.

Simply put, people actually thrive better in social groups. Within every social group, there will eventually be a leader to emerge and this is the one the group will follow until they gain their own confidence and leadership skills.

The leader of any group is the strongest and most dominant individually. His or her responsibility is to protect the group. Within the world of network marketing, this is achieved through business savviness, socialbility, monetary results, and educational level.

Now, when someone is first starting out in network marketing, they will not have the monetary results for others to admire and aspire to duplicate. Therefore, it is important for that individual to then build a reputation of business savviness and socialbility.

Educational level does not mean you must have a college degree behind your name for others to be attracted to you. What it does mean is you must always be working at your own personal development. If you invest in your own learning and growing of your persona, others will naturally be attracted to you.

Some of the most successful in network marketing were not natural-born leaders. Mike Dillard, for instance, was once a very shy and self-conscious young man who couldn’t sponsor anyone if his life depended on it. Today, he has one of the largest downlines in any network marketing company.

What did he start to do differently to achieve magnificent results like this?

He simply made himself more attractive by positioning himself as a leader.

Remember, he started out with everything working against him because of his shyness and self-consciousness. However, he learned that he must believe in himself and believe that he was a leader and his business transformed from there.

There is a very well-known saying that most network marketers are known to use, but very few are able to succeed at…

“Fake it til you make it.”

Well, unless you believe you have the qualities you are aspiring to, you will never be able to “make it.”

Belief will always come before results.

So, if you do not truly believe you are a leader, your audience will pick up on this and deem you a poser. You will never be able to build your business. You will never become attractive. You will continue to struggle to finally experience the success you were promised when you first joined your network marketing company.
